Metamorphosis - November 2021
Mrs Houdini returns - but with a new name...
Death Is No Laughing Matter - October 2021
Jax Returns! - September 2021
But she's not quite the same... Moira Moments season 2 - Jack
Down On The Riverbank - August 2021
The Wind In The Willows - Ratty - Kouyou Theatre
A Theatrical Find - July 2021

Frances Sheridan's - The Dupe - Mrs Etherdown - Lost Ladies of Theatre
What A Lady - May/June 2021
Well, LADIES technically... Although there is only one mentioned in the title of the Alan Bennett's 'The Lady In The Van', there are several others to be found in this classic play - and (with some incredibly quick costume changes!!) I played them all, in this 5 star production from the critically acclaimed Sarah Mann Company!
Magic Moira - January 2021 and beyond!!
From the team that brought you the Pogley Wood Murders: New for 2021, a 3 Season, episodic, audio drama - Moira Moments...
Every family has it's secrets but the Berrecams, it would seem, have more than most...
Named after the Moirae - the three Fates of Greek mythology - who sang about things that 'were', things that 'are' and things that are 'yet to come', a Moira Moment is when all 3 Fates sing together, resulting in the feeling that something 'has to happen'...
Featuring a stellar cast (including, Louise Jameson, Arthur Bostrom, Lara Lemon and Samuel Clemens), this series of cleverly interwoven stories gradually reveals what can happen to an empire, if someone starts to pull at a loose thread...
With a major storyline in Season 1, I am delighted to be playing Jax - a woman who has some shocking secrets of her own, which will lead to carnage for the Berrecams, further down the line...
The first Season is now available to download on iTunes (there is a new episode released every Wednesday) or you can listen to all episodes here (for free!): https://368theatre.com/moira-moments-in-stereo/
And the scripts for Season 2 are almost finished and ready for the first read throughs; really excited to see where this Family Saga will take us, as more and more secrets are revealed...

COMING SOON!
THE LADY IN THE VAN - ALAN BENNETT
26th-29th May 2021
After the run away success of last year's 'Abigail's Party', the Sarah Mann Company are thrilled to have been invited to open the
Brighton Festival at Brighton Open Air Theatre, with this delightful comedy.
"After Miss Shepherd drove her van into my garden in 1974, friends used to ask me if I was planning to write a play about her.
I wasn't, but twenty-five years later, I have..."
Very much looking forward to returning to the Sarah Mann Company and playing 'Pauline', 'Mam' and the 'Social Worker' in this Alan Bennett classic!

Feeling Fruity... December 2020

Angelicanina is worried about her brother Morty; and with good reason - he is due to give birth to a watermelon at any moment and doesn't appear to be coping very well...
'F is For Fruit' is a crazy story for these crazy times, from the bonkers but brilliant mind of Enfant Terrible, Daniel Turvil!
Always delighted to have the opportunity of working with Dan and his awesome team;
There was fun,
there was laughter
and there was fruit.
A LOT of fruit..!
Fright Nights (and Days)... October-November 2020
Just before Lockdown II (the sequel), Madame Swish made her much anticipated return to the gloriously spooky and atmospheric Battle Abbey, where she delighted packed (socially distant!!) crowds with her tales of gruesome (and often completely avoidable) deaths in 'The Book of The Dead - Stupid Edition'!
Death is never fun (particularly for the person experiencing it) and not something I would normally recommend laughing at ('in the face of', yes but 'at', no); but sometimes, when you hear of the fatal outcome of someone's ridiculous actions, you can't help thinking, 'Well, what did you expect..?!!' |
Death On The Downs... September 2020
In a post apocalyptic world (which felt disturbingly apt this year), a wife is brutally murdered by her husband - but why..?
Always a joy working with the uber talented (and definitely one to watch) young filmmaker, Daniel Turvil on his latest short, 'Silence, Violence' and this production was no exception; I had a great time rolling around the Sussex countryside, covered in blood and dying horribly as the unfortunately doomed Christine...

Let's Get This Party Started! July-September 2020
So. COVID put the kibosh on the original dates for our party (and first production from the Sarah Mann Company) but we didn't let a little thing like a global pandemic stop us and, as soon as Boris gave the all clear for Outdoor Performance to recommence, we were ready to go!
Had an absolute blast playing Beverly in Mike Leigh's classic tragi-comedy, 'Abigail's Party'. It was an interesting and often challenging experience, rehearsing in PPE (until the cast became a 'Bubble') and plotting in the use of hand sanitiser throughout the performance (!) but we made it work and I am really proud to have been part of one of the first live professional theatre performances in the country (on the planet!) post Lockdown 1... Because of Social Distancing rules, the theatre could only operate at a 3rd of it's usual capacity but with every show sold out, an extended run and (mostly!) glorious weather, we smashed Brighton Open Air Theatre's box office records and currently hold the title of the venue's most successful show EVER!! We finished the run at the Hawth theatre in Crawley where (due to unprecedented bookings for an open air show) we had to be moved into the main house - which I think was probably more of a challenge for the audience/front of house staff than it was for the cast!!
Cheese-y pineapple, anyone?!

Meet The REAL Pip Henderson..! June 2020
What goes in to the creation of a fantastically successful Audio drama?
After at least 2 listeners asked TPWM team (and, clearly having waaaaay too much time on our hands during LockDown), the cast decided to bow to the will of The People and voila! 'The Making Of Pogley Wood' was born; a full length, behind the scenes, expose, starring all your favourite Pogley Wood actors (both in and out of character)!
The brain child of Dominic McChesney, this project was about as much fun as you could possibly have in a socially distant environment - and made Lockdown almost worthwhile...

Self Mice-olation... May 2020
It's Absolute Murder - April 2020
GREETINGS FROM THE BUNKER - March 2020
Well, Strange and Unusual Times, eh?
Having had shoulder surgery at the end of last month, I had been prepared for a period of House Arrest and No Work, prior to the virus hitting but I was not expecting the rest of the world to join me...
Forgetting the emotional and personal feelings about current events I, like so many others, have watched in horror as my industry implodes; a large number of my friends losing, long fought for businesses in a matter of weeks and/or becoming immediately unemployed - and yet, having said that, I am also AMAZED and heartened by the explosion of creative productivity that I am witnessing;
As Some Bloke once said, 'The times, they are a-chaaaaaaaaayn-jing...' And the people are a-changing too...
So; like everyone else, I am having to adapt the way that I work - it's a very steep, often frustrating and mainly technological learning curve but this old dog is slowly learning some new tricks and I've been managing to keep myself busy whilst in Lock Down!
Here's some of what you can expect from me in the coming months...
The Pogley Wood Murders by Nigel Fairs (ongoing radio podcast)... Good, old fashioned, Murder Mysteries set in 1937.
Meet the eccentric residents of Pogley Wood - an area of the British Isles that boasts a higher mortality rate than Midsomer...
With a lot of patience and a bit of technical wizardry, the awesome Nigel Fairs manages to bring together a supreme cast of over a dozen actors (incl.Louise Jameson, Angela Bruce, Abi Harris, Radley Mason and Mr Fairs himself), who are all self isolating in small recording cupboards across the South East.... I will be appearing in up coming episodes as Doreen Noser (ep7 - Cold As Ice) and Veruca Twiglet (ep10 - Dial P for Murder) and am currently looking forward to the arrival of the next script...
You can view a trailer here: youtu.be/yT40VBo87Cw and listen to chapter 1 here: https://soundcloud.com/user-223545720/episode-one
It's fun n free to enjoy, please spread the word!
Poetry Unheard - Pretty much what it says on the tin..! A collection of readings of poetry that people may well already know but might not necessarily have 'heard'...
Rather fittingly, I was initially approached to record Kitty O'Meara's beautiful pandemic poem "And The People Stayed Home"; this is now in production and I look forward to hearing the end result! Poetry Unheard is an ongoing project launching soon - will keep you informed!
Mrs Houdini - Update
A combination of recent events and the fact that he is just too damn busy(!) means that, sadly, Doug DeVaney has had to step down from his role as writer on this ongoing project - although he remains very much part of the creative team.
However, I am delighted to announce that the brilliant Christine Foster (Four Thieves' Vinegar, Lost In The Willows, Mixed Doubles) has agreed to take up the reins!
Chris has an impressive back catalogue of stage, film and TV scripts to her name and a well earned reputation for writing strong parts for women. I am VERY excited to see where this new collaboration will take us!
Paul Zenon remains attached to the project as official Magic Consultant (and resident Houdini expert!).
We also have a possible (amazing!) production designer interested in joining the team and altho this might seem a little 'previous' at this point in time, the idea is to use this current Live Theatre Downtime to the best of our abilities so we can be ready to hit the ground running when normal services are resumed...
BLAST Science is back!
With millions of people suddenly finding themselves cast as Home Educators in the last few weeks, and Lydia Samuel and I (like everyone else) currently working from home, it seemed to make sense to dust off our lab coats n produce some Crazy (online) Primary Science videos! First experiment will be a spot of 'chromatology' - providing I don't eat the Scientific ingredients (Skittles, Smarties, M&Ms) first..!
For more information and fun Science stuff for kids, check out the BLAST science website www.blastscience.co.uk
'Pip's Projects' and 'Stories For...' - A collection of different, theme related Activities/Stories with accompanying videos.
Initially for my Grandchildren (2,3,5) to help them through these difficult times but to be rolled out as a FREE resource at a later date...

ABIGAIL'S PARTY -
11th - 20th June 2020 (to be rescheduled!)
It's party time at 13, Richmond Road and everyone is invited!!
Very much looking forward to my first outing for the Sarah Mann Company - playing 'Beverly' in the Mike Leigh classic!

The Morlington Mysteries - Episode 100 - February 2020
After 21 years of Morlington Madness, the series hit an incredible milestone this month - The 100th Episode! This crazy murder mystery cycle celebrated the occasion with 'In Which We Serve' an adventure set on a moving train (an ACTUAL, moving train) and bringing together 12 regular performers, with little rehearsal and an end that no one, apart from the writer and the murderer had actually seen!! Always a joy to work with my incredibly talented 368 Theatre family, but this show has to be my absolute favourite - so far..!! |
Feeling A Little Peaky - January 2020
SO lovely to be given the opportunity to wear a nice frock for a change! Great fun working with the lads at Stunt Action Specialists as we brought 1930's Birmingham casino glamour to a 2020's launch of a venue that the Shelby's would have been proud of! Hand bags, glad rags and shot guns - my kind of party! |
Yoo Lucky! January 2020
A lovely, fun start to the new year working with the fabulously quirky Daniel Turvill on his latest short "Yoo Lucky". Just a day player on this one but had a great time playing the much put upon Mum of a teenage boy who thinks that he's the God of style. The coolest person in town. Maybe he is - but it's really hard to be his Mother...
BLAST Off..! December 2019
Well, all good things must come to an end - and this is definitely the end of an era...
This month, after nearly a decade of bringing Dynamic and Dramatic Science to thousands of Primary School children across the South East, BLAST Science finally closed it's doors. But we went out with a bang; a nice run of end of term performances (including a newly commissioned 'Solar Show'!) and The Big Blast Off - a Grand Finale of all our 'Best Bits'! There were Exploding Potions; there were Farting Pixies; and there was fire.
A LOT of fire.
It's been a BLAST...

And The Next Thing Is... December 2019
An invitation to read for the part of 'Claire', in Oliver Gordon's "Truth Tells A Tale" lead to a lovely (but very intense), 3 day shoot with the Rat Catcher Productions' team, just before Christmas... "The sudden reappearance of Claire's estranged son, Tyler, would seem, at first, to be a blessing; until the reformed alcoholic and bully realises that her hideous past failings as a Mother have created a monster in her own image..." |
It's With Regret... November 2019
I was very sad and disappointed to hear that, due to financial difficulties, JW Productions were having to pull their production of 'The Wizard Of Oz'... In these difficult and unstable times, it is REALLY difficult to find the financial support for high quality children's/family theatre; JW Productions have been the leading producers in this genre for many years and I look forward to the team bouncing back and returning, stronger, at a future date...
In the meantime, I suddenly find myself unemployed!
So it's time to get my head down and look for the Next Thing...!

'Tis The Season To Be Scary - October 2019
One of my favourite times of the year! This October found me re-united with two of my favourite companies and getting up to my usual Seasonal Schtick!
The month started with the team at Griffin Historical, as Madame Swish - Victorian Medium (but mine's a large), Mandrake The Mental(ist) and Sir Wilton Musket (Gentleman Vampire Slayer) made their, much anticipated, return to Battle Abbey for a run of Ghostly Walks and Phantom Theatre; and ended with my annual outing with the awesome 368 Theatre Company, as 'The Countess' in their site specific (Brighton Pier) 'Scream Park 2'! |
The Wizard of Oz - December 2019
It feels a little early to be thinking about Christmas but that 's what I currently find myself doing! This year, I am delighted to have been invited back to the JW Productions family to play 'Scarecrow in "The Wizard of Oz" at the Attenborough Centre For The Creative Arts. Really looking forward to working with the lovely team at JWP again and returning to a venue that holds so many happy memories for me (altho I will ALWAYS think of it as The Gardner Centre)! I'm also relishing the opportunity to play 'against type' this year - I'd better start working on being 'nice' for once!!! |
'Mrs Houdini' Update - September 2019
So, the journey has begun!
We are now well under way with our research and I am slowly but surely, falling in love with Bess (and Harry)'s story.
There is already a plethora of books/films about Harry but we think that Bess's story is equally interesting - a different point of view of a history that we already know - and initial response to the project shows that we are not alone! So we have decided to rethink our end goal (we're thinking Bigger and Better!) and give ourselves a little more time for the creative process to ensure that we really do the story justice.
Although we are still fairly early into this process we have already been thinking about a couple of tricks and illusions that we might incorporate into the show! With this in mind, this month I caught up with my old chum, the award winning, hugely knowledgeable and very lovely Magician, Paul Zenon. Spent a wonderful evening talking all things Houdini (Paul is quite an expert) and came away with some very exciting (and FEASIBLE!!!) ideas!
We are also thrilled to announce that Paul has come on board as official Magic Consultant.

A Builder Of Worlds..! August 2019
This August saw me notch up my 22nd (!!!) year at the legendary Earwig Theatre Summer School. Using a total of over 1000 metres of fabric, 100's of poles and garden canes, 65 kids, 40 + hula hoops, some circus equipment, a LOT of safety pins, miles of tape (masking/sello/gaffer), string, elastic bands and some imagination, we created the world (from The Big Bang to the death of the Dinosaurs), fell down a rabbit hole, burnt down Old London Town and landed on the Moon! |
Lost In The Willows... July 2019
This month, I was delighted to be invited to work, once again, with the awesome playwright, Christine Foster.
Last time, it was as the garrulous 'Hannah', in the London premiere of "Four Thieves' Vinegar; my all time favourite part to date! This time it was playing the winsome and fragile Elspeth Grahame, in a rehearsal and development day for Ms Foster's latest play, "Lost In The Willows"; the desperately sad story of the author, Kenneth Grahame's, life. Chris always writes such great parts for women and Elspeth is no exception. An intense but incredibly fruitful day working with an excellent cast, under the watchful eye of Director Margot Jobbins and the writer herself! |
Summer Term Science FACTion! May/June 2019
A manic couple of months of crazy school shows for BLAST Science! This term we focused mainly on Materials and 'Magical' Science as we investigated the difference between science fiction and science fact (you might be surprised at how little difference there actually is in some cases)! Featuring potions (colour changing/exploding/smelly!), an invisibility cloak, light sabres and flying pixies... WIZARD EXPERIMENTUM!! |
Have You Ever Been To Russia? You Moscow... April 2019
An old Russian Widow writes a letter to her beloved Aleksej, in an attempt to deal with her sorrow at his passing.
But as we see, this is no ordinary "Babushka" and her methods of grieving are far from conventional...
Loved voicing this funny, charming and thought provoking short film by the super talented (one to watch) Julia Jalyschko and her team.
And find myself strangely chuffed by my apparent ability to pass as a Russian Octogenarian...

Finding Bess - March 2019
After the success of JW Productions' "Mrs Houdini" at Stanmer Park last year, I'm thrilled to announce that we are now taking the show further - and further afield! Originally written as an immersive, 'rolling,' site specific piece, the show recreated the occurrences at a seance held by Bess Houdini in 1929. But there is SO much more to her story - and the team at JW Productions want to tell it, in a full length show, touring the UK some time next year... March saw the beginning of our Research and Development period and research is underway - which I am REALLY enjoying! I am currently learning a lot about 'Miracle Mongers and Their Methods'! Really looking forward to working on this exciting new project (with writer Doug DeVaney and director James Weisz). Can't wait to find Bess... |
BLAST Off! February 2019
Come Fly With Me... Peter Pan - December/January 2018/2019
I do love Panto - Oh yes, I do!! This year I got to unleash my inner pirate as part of that famous comedy trio, 'Hook, Starkey and Smee'! Had an absolute BLAST returning to the beautiful Attenborough Centre For The Creative Arts for the 2nd year running and working with the awesome cast of JW Productions' 'Peter Pan'! I even learnt how to fly, courtesy of Frantic Assembly's Phil Stewart! A fantastic run with awesome audiences and some rocking reviews! A great end to/start of the year!!
Hooray For... November 2018
OK. So, technically, this isn't really a work post but I couldn't resist! After a frantically busy few months and before Panto madness kicked in I spent 2 glorious weeks stateside, on a road trip that started in San Francisco and ended up in a very swanky 12th floor apartment in downtown LA! I had an AMAZING time but it wasn't all rest and relaxation - I took my Peter Pan script with me and got on with line learning whilst I was there!! Look Mother!! I made it to Hollywood!! Finally... And I WILL be back... |
Fright Fest - October 2018
October is always a busy month and this year was no exception as I found myself playing a variety of creepy characters in 3 very different productions; Katherine in 'The Phantom Highwayman' for Griffin Historical, The Countess in 'Scream Park' for 368 Theatre Company and the title role in JW Productions' new biographical play, 'Mrs Houdini' - the story of the woman behind the Great illusionist and spiritualist de-bunker - and what happened after he passed away on October 31st, 1926... |
"Flora And Fauna" - September 2018
Sarah's life isn't much to write home about. She's a 'good girl'; a conscientious student with few friends and an alcoholic, party animal for a Mother. So when wild child Flora bursts into her life dragging her out of her restricted existence, chaos ensues - and it probably isn't going to end well...
Great fun working with Olivia Waring and her amazing team on this darkly comic short film this month.
What character did I play? Sarah's alcoholic, party animal Mother, of course...

The Importance of Swallows and Amazons - August 2018
This month was pretty crazy! In a double whammy of outdoor theatre, I tackled a variety of roles in a new musical adaptation of 'Swallows and Amazons' by day and 'Miss Prism' in 'The Importance of Being Earnest' by night, at one of my favourite venues, Brighton Open Air Theatre.
Fortunately, for once the British Summer was kind to us, in fact, if anything it was a little too hot... Honestly, there's no pleasing some people... |
The Return of Wilhelmina Wonka - July 2018
A science show about chocolate? Really?? Well actually, the process of making that lovely, yummy stuff is stupidly scientific and hideously complicated (how anyone EVER 'stumbled' across the formula is completely beyond me)... Thoroughly enjoyed my week at The Wakehurst Science Festival, educating audiences about the chemistry of this classic confectionery - and eating it too..! |
Chemistry and Crinolines - June 2018
![]() This month, I find myself mainly channelling my inner Queen - Victoria this time - as I ask the question 'What did the Victorians do for us?', in BLAST Science's newest show, "Victoria's Science".
Well, quite a lot, actually! They were a funny bunch but my goodness what a period of scientific advancement - so many incredible inventions and discoveries we can almost forgive them for thinking that the best way to 'ease teething' in babies was to hang a dead mole around the child's neck! Almost... |
Raising Kids, Playing Queens and Slaying Dragons - May 2018
Not sure which is tougher to be fair... This month saw me tackle 3 very different characters; 'Ellie's Mum' (for once, the normal, well balanced one!) in George Rogulja's short film "Mother and Son"; Queen to 'National Treasure' Brian Blessed's King, in Stunt Action Specialists' "Fighting Knights" and 'Freya - The Slayer' in Griffin Historical's site specific piece "Here Be Dragons". All things considered, I think I feel safer when armed with a sword!! |
Fun n Games in New York City - April 2018
April saw me heading stateside, to lay down some comedy tracks with my chums at Hickory Bench Playhouse! Great fun recording at their home base, the legendary Sesame Street Studios, NYC! Lots of exciting projects in the pipeline with these crazy guys - looking forward to heading back to the Big Apple in the not too distant future..! |
Supernatural, Super-powered, Super Freak - March 2018
When David accuses fellow classmate Sadie of supernatural shenanigans, resulting in 'murdercide', it's down to their long suffering teacher, Miss Higgs, to try and ascertain who's telling the truth. Did Mr Samuels jump or was he pushed? Is David descending into madness or is there more than meets the eye when it comes to Sadie? And what's with the Rubik's cube?? Great fun filming this comedy, sci-fi short with the fabulous 'Super Freak' team this month - looking forward to seeing the final edit! |
What A BLAST! - February 2018
February saw me donning my white coat and safety goggles for a month of witchcraft n wizardry, materials (including non-Newtonian fluids) n maggots, sedimentary biscuits, slime, poo, blood, sweat (and tears), rock (n roll), fire, and chocolate - what's not to love?! And all in the name of science (natch)...! |
Challenging Perceptions - January 2018
Things are not always as they seem... And no more so than in new indie Horror flick 'Shelter'!
A bereaved Mother welcomes a homeless refugee into her home but who should be more afraid of whom?
What's in YOUR attic..?

IT'S CHRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISTMAAAAAAAAAASS!! The Amazing Adventures of Pinocchio
December 2017/January 2018
Getting Into Character And Getting Carried Away... November 2017
November has been a crazy month, with my days being spent cracking the whip and hanging around on a hoop as rehearsals begin for 'The Amazing Adventures of Pinocchio'; and my nights being taken up playing 3 crazy characters for 368 Theatre Company's Christmas episode of 'The Morlington Mysteries; It's Behind You'!
Hard work, but enormous fun - What larks, eh?!

COMING SOON..!
Christmas is nearly upon us (oh, yes it is!) and I am delighted to announce that, 21 years after I first played 'The Juggler' in MCN's production of "Pinocchio" at The Gardner Arts Centre, I will be returning to that newly refurbished and renamed theatre (now the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts) this December, to play the evil 'Signora Circo' in JW Productions/Talking Scarlet's spectacular production of... "The Amazing Adventures of Pinocchio"!! The Circus is coming to town!! |
Time To Get Cracking - Training Begins... November 2017
The Return Of Madame Swish! October 2017 |

Ah. I do love Halloween!
This October found me back at the incredibly atmospheric Battle Abbey, for Griffin Historical/English Heritage, giving readings
from the Book Of The Dead - Stupid Edition (who would have thought that underwear and chairs could be so deadly??) and leading ghost tours around this spooktacularly haunted site!
Great to be working with the awesomely talented Christophe Philipps, as the Mystical Double Act of 'Madame Swish and Mandrake the Mentalist' were reunited once again!
The weather was suitably suitable too - cold, wet, gloomy and misty...
Perfect!
Feeling A Little Peaky... September 2017

Christmas is just around the corner (sorry!) so naturally, thoughts turn to murder and mayhem!!
Had great fun on a green screen photo shoot in preparation for Stunt Action Specialists' new 'Peaky Blinders' inspired stunt show
this month. It's always a pleasure to work with these guys and I'm really looking forward to channelling my inner 'Polly'!
Hair? Tick. Make-up? Tick. Nice dress n heels? Tick. Shot gun? Tick!!
Right, now where's the party?!
Summer Fun Down On The Riverbank! June/July/August 2017
Having an absolute blast playing Chief Weasel (Policeman and Washerwoman) in JW Productions' touring, outdoor production of Wind In The Willows! So far, the weather has been hot, hot, HOT; but in true British Summertime fashion, the forecast for the coming weeks is wet, wet, WET!!! But this won't dampen our enthusiasm for this 'fantastic, charming and joyful production'! Altho I suspect that the backstage area is going to start smelling of slightly damp 'fur'...
Finally! A Series Regular..! May 2017
As well as playing Miss Moneypenny in the latest edition of hit US comedy podcast, "Hickory Bench Playhouse", I took on the starring role in a different kind of production this month... After 18 years of togetherness, Mark and I finally tied the knot (well, we thought it was about time!) on the tiny Danish island of Aero, with just a couple of witnesses and a German national newspaper in attendance! Looking forward to perfecting my new role as Mrs Hudson and hoping that this particular production will run and run..!!
Swords and Arrows, Abbeys and Towers - April 2017

This month, I have been mainly sword fighting at Battle Abbey and firing crossbows at the Tower of London! Being a Woman at Arms may not be the most sociable of roles to play (meet new people then kill them!) but my goodness, you certainly come away at the end of the day feeling calm and at peace with the world..!
And The Reviews Are In... "Four Thieves' Vinegar" by Christine Foster - March 2017
Carn's Theatre Passion - 4 stars / Theatre Weekly - 4 stars / Everything Theatre - 4 stars
'The cast are uniformly excellent... Pip Henderson (Hannah Jeakes) is a highly experienced and versatile actress... the future of the British stage is safe in their hands... 4 stars. (West End Wilma)
'Pip Henderson's fantastic 'period' face, combined with her easy delivery of Foster's impeccably researched 17th-century street slang, makes her a magnetic stage presence. Great stuff!' (London City Nights)
'A terrific atmosphere, with great period feel, this play does well in illustrating the agency of women in this time (1665). But it is with Hannah, a brilliantly ferocious Pip Henderson, that misconceptions of the era are most challenged. The position of nurse is especially vital during a plague and Hannah is happy to exploit all the opportunities, legal and illegal, that emerge from this... 4 Stars. One of our Top Picks for March'. (London Pub Theatres Magazine)
'The ensemble cast are well matched but it was Pip Henderson's acerbic turn as Hannah, the nurse who doesn't suffer fools, that was the pick on the evening that this reviewer attended...' (RemoteGoat)
'The world weary nurse, Hannah, played with a gravel-voiced anarchic glee by Pip Henderson... The makings of something truly outstanding...' (Theatre Things)
'An extraordinary performance...' (Christine Foster - writer)

1665. Newgate Prison, London.
Matthias, an alchemist, has bankrupted himself trying to find a cure for the plague and has been thrown into prison for debt. There he is joined by Hannah, a garrulous widow, held for raising a riot, and young Jennet, who is sentenced to hang for theft. All three of them are busy plotting against each other in their efforts to escape when the pestilence arrives in the stone pits of Newgate.
Whilst the other inmates – believing they are doomed – indulge in debauchery and drunkenness, Matthias begs his reluctant cellmates to help him make his surefire remedy. Unfortunately, the missing ingredient is gold – something they have no hope of obtaining without resorting to the only currencies they do have: sex, wit and lies.
'Four Thieves' Vinegar' explores the behaviour of ordinary people in times of disaster and examines which elements of the human spirit remain indestructible be it 350 years ago, or today…

Finding Hannah - February 2017
So, rehearsals have begun for "Four Thieves' Vinegar" (the 42nd Theatre Company) and I am having an absolute blast finding and nurturing my 'inner bitch' as Hannah Jeakes enters a cramped and gloomy cell in Newgate Prison during the Great Plague of 1665. Spending my days in a big skirt and 'stays' - it's doing wonders for my posture!
The Plague Cometh... January 2017
So; we've got Brexit and Trump - but at least we don't have the plague, unlike the poor citizens of London in 1665. Very excited at the prospect of working with The 42nd Theatre Company on their debut production, "Four Thieves' Vinegar", running at the Barons Court Theatre (London) from 8th -26th March 2017; where I will be playing the role of 'Hannah', a rancid, alcoholic, old Plague Nurse. Can't think why they cast me...
1920's Tinsel - December '16/January '17
A fun-filled Festive Season with the lads at Stunt Action Specialists. This year, I played gangster's moll, 'Ruby', to Reece Longhurst's 'Tony Baloney', as we threw open the doors to the Rat Club in "Prohibition Nights". Good times, firing guns n smashing bottles over people's heads - in a flapper dress and heels..!
Hello, Hickory Bench Playhouse! September - November 2016
So, my debut season with the HBP crew has seen (or rather heard) me playing amongst other things, a Brummie worm, George Washington's bawdy mistress, an erotic baker and a barfly at 'The Shipwreck Speakeasy', a Cheers style drinking establishment in downtown NYC! Looking forward to getting to grips with a whole host of new characters in the new year!

I Do Love Nothing In The World So Much As... August 2016
... A nice bit of open-air Shakespeare! This summer I am overjoyed to be working with the (newly named!) Brighton Shakespeare Company; playing Margaret and Verges, in their much anticipated production of 'Much Ado About Nothing' (Brighton Open Air Theatre & touring). Having so much fun creating these 2 lovely comedy characters, rehearsing in the sun (mainly!) and working with such a high calibre cast! |
A Face For (American) Radio! - July 2016
I am utterly thrilled to announce that I will be joining US sketch comedy podcast crew, 'Hickory Bench Playhouse', as an ongoing cast member (and token Brit) as of August 2016. Currently recording on different sides of the Atlantic but looking forward to making the trip stateside at some point to lay down some tracks at their home; the Sesame Street Studios in NYC!
Topical Treason! July 2016

It's been a while since I last threw myself into the topical/political/satirical sketch comedy pool - and what a month it was to have brought out the old bikini!
This month's 'Treason Show - The Brexit Edition' (Rialto, Brighton & touring) has been an absolute roller coaster!!
What with the current political situation both here in the UK and in the US, the travesty that is Southern Rail, the weather, the England football team (...), the return to earth of Sussex based Astronaut, Tim Peak and the unveiling (kind of) of the i360, it has been one of the fastest moving news cycles we have ever encountered. With stories changing daily (sometimes hourly!) we had to work REALLY hard to keep up... But keep up we did, and in fine fashion - with a complete run of sell out shows!
One of the scariest but most exciting shows I have ever done - I'm looking forward to diving back in again later in the year!
BLAST Off and Splashdown!! June 2016
I always have so much fun working with BLAST Science and this new show - "Space Force" has been no exception! Aimed at smaller scientists, this whistle-stop tour of the science of space introduces the audience to a host of out of this world experiments and some crazy scientific characters - all played by me!! What larks eh?!
The Merry Month of Mayhem! May 2016
This month saw me playing both sides of the field In the on-going war between Humans and Fantasy Creatures! Initially as an axe wielding civilian, defending Tower Bridge against Giants and Lava Monsters in an advert for the massively popular mobile game, 'Clash of Kings'; then defecting to the side of the Fairies to play 'Queen of the Night' in Ripley Theatre's award winning "The Amazing Adventures of Little Red". Great script, a killer song and the chance to dance the tango nightly, with a 6'4" wolf? What's not to love..?!

A Perfectly Normal April... April 2016
It's been a busy month, working on 2 very different projects that both shared similar subject matter... My first outing was filming an e-learning resource for the Social Care Institute for Excellence. The shoot for 'Caring For People With Dementia' was a surprisingly emotional experience - a tricky script directed/created beautifully by the awesome Ben, Ruth and crew from Toffee Hammer Productions, with some fantastically emotional performances from a VERY strong cast... And then from fact to fiction as I tackled the emotionally bereft Lynn, mother to the protagonist, in Issy Rayner's directorial debut, 'Perfectly Normal'. Written in response to watching her grandmother's battle with Dementia, 'Perfectly Normal' asks the question, 'In a world where being 'normal' is everything, is it possible to be normal differently to everyone else..?'
Experimental Film and Medieval Crime and Punishment!! March 2016
'Hello - Au Revoir' is an experimental feature film created from a selection of short, character driven monologues, creatively edited together! Chuffed to bits that both my clips (see below) have made it into the final edit - can't wait to see the end result!
clip 1 - https://vimeo.com/158390765
clip 2 - https://vimeo.com/158392571
March also saw me take the one woman show 'Court In The Act' to the good people of Old Sarum. A fast paced, family friendly romp through Medieval crime and punishment from the Vikings to the Magna Carter! What larks eh?!!

Scientists and Seafarers - February 2016
It's funny; I hated Science at school but the more I work with the great team at BLAST Science, the more I am starting to love it!! Had a CRACKING time working with the lovely Lydia Samuel on 'The EGG-straordinarily, EGG-cellent Forces Show' for this year's Science Week! Loved channelling my inner Issac Newton and going into space with Tim Chick and his amazing EGG-stronauts! Then it was splashdown on the 7 seas as Captain Chris and Pirate Pip took audiences at Pendennis Castle on a whistlestop tour of piracy throughout the ages in 'Pirates Ahoy!' Aaarrgghh!
The Reviews Are In..!!! Aladdin - Emporium Theatre, Brighton - December 2015 / January 2016
'... Some skilled physical set pieces, plenty of verbal knockabout, some gentle audience interaction and even a “he’s behind you!” and we have a full blown musical theatre show to delight 6-106 year olds. There’s plenty to see, a couple of stand out songs and a very together cast who plough through gag after gag... See the show a second time and you’ll catch the hundred more gags you missed the first time around. Pip Henderson makes a perfect villain with great comic timing and a studied scowl, making her very boo-able... What we have here is an unmissable Christmas show in a city, once again light on panto offerings for the winter season. It’s enjoyable, ambitious, heart-warming, inventive, funny and you’ll leave more than glad you went.'

'A charmingly unusual take on the pantomime classic... Winding wondrous acrobatics, choreography and cleverly written songs around its story...
Of course, it’s not a story without a few obstacles... Not everyone wishes for Aladdin’s fortune; our villain taking form in carpet dealer Electa (the brilliant Pip Henderson) and her loyal sidekick Rikesh. Akin to Jafar and Iago, the duo is full of dastardly antagonistic plans to thwart the dreams of Aladdin. They say the best songs are often saved for the villain, and Emporium’s Aladdin is certainly no exception – stealing the show with the thunderous “Better in my Hands/Power”... deliver(s) a fresher take on the traditional panto atmosphere, culminating in a lively finale that has all the audience on their feet!'
Nammie Matthews – BN1 Magazine
'I love pantomime and always have. I quite like Christmas shows too but they are quite different. Emporium manage to pull off a clever hybrid and this Aladdin is packed with fun... Pip Henderson as Electa is a classy baddie worthy of every hiss and boo as she menaces the cast and audience... Yet again Emporium have pulled off a panto that warmed my heart – I might even go back and see it all again – it’s that good!'

Becoming Evil! Aladdin Rehearsals - November 2015
Science and Spookiness - October 2015
From the Scientific to the Spiritual, October had it all! I started the month taking on a variety of famous (and some, not so famous) female scientists as Blast Science launched their new 'Inspirational Women in Science' show; and ended it at Carisbrooke Castle, where I spent a spooktacular week leading brave audiences around the site on the, now legendary, Halloween Ghost Walks..!! |
At Death's Door - Again! 'Cat Skin' - September 2015

My career so far does seem to have included rather a large number of roles that have required me to be either dead or dying (do you think I should be worried by this?!) and this month saw me add another to my CV, when I played the eponymous heroine's Mother, in 'Cat Skin' - the latest feature from the hugely talented Daniel Grasskampl!
A thoroughly enjoyable shoot with Dan and his amazing cast and crew and altho' I spent most of my time in a hospital bed, filming pretty intense scenes, there was always plenty of laughter on set to lighten the mood! Really good fun - can't wait to see the end result when it's released next year!
Swords and Stories - August 2015
This summer, I have mainly been... Telling stories in the sunshine and recreating the Battle of Hastings, at the beautiful and very atmospheric Battle Abbey; Being the Keeper of the House (and consequently, the Keeper of Some Very Large Keys!) at Eltham Palace and spending a very manic (and wet!) few days being a Maiden at Arms at Dover Castle's Grand Melee! |
The World Is Mine Oyster...! 'Merry Wives Of Windsor' - Brighton Open AIr Theatre - 15th-26th July 2015
Having a blast playing 'Pistol' in this fantastic open air prodcution of the classic Shakespearean farce, in this wonderful, new, purpose built venue! Come, see! https://www.facebook.com/events/1609648812650438/
Shakespeare, Silliness And A Sting In The Tail - July 2015
It's being a very busy month with a full on rehearsal schedule for 'Merry Wives of Windsor' (Brighton Open Air Theatre) as well as playing Officer Pam Hogwood in 'Nothing To Declare' (Sideways Arts) at Norwich Civic Centre and a cornucopia of crazy characters in 'The Sting In The Tail' (368 Theatre) at the fantastically atmospheric Arundel Jail House. What a great start to the summer! |
Pip's Doing Panto This Year... Oh Yes She Is..! June 2015

I am delighted to announce that I will be throwing myself fully into the role of Panto Villain this year, in Emporium Theatre's family extravaganza, 'Aladdin' running from 2nd December 2015 - 9th January 2016!
Full details (show times, booking information etc) here: http://www.emporiumbrighton.com/aladdin
Thoroughly looking forward to chanelling my wicked Aunt; Practising my Evil Laughter as we speak..!
Take A Walk With Me... May 2015
If you were out and about in Brighton during the Festival this year you may well have been caught up in 'UnderBelly', a new promenade show from Historicycle, that leads it's unsuspecting audience through some of Brighton's seedier past! Trunk murders, arson, suicides, hangings (with a bit of drawings and quarterings thrown in for good measure), dirty weekends and Wife Auctions featured in this whistlestop tour of some of the history that Brighton would (probably) rather forget... Fun for all the family..! |
A Chance To Hear It Again... April 2015
The BBC radio documentary I did about Polegate airship station is going out again as part of a WW1 special at 6pm on Easter Monday (6th April). You can listen to it here... http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02b3bt3
Tudor Tales; Spies, Spanish Invasions and Comedy Facial Hair! March/April 2015
March and April saw me back at Pendennis, this time chanelling my inner Tudor as I tackled a variety of characters in "Drake And The Dons"; a fast moving, action packed comedy for Griffin Historical; featuring spies, Armadas, Popes, Kings, Queens, a selection of stick-on 'face fluff' and a game of bowls...
Oh; And the now legendary Children's Battle! |
Pirates, Vampires, Nuns and Librarians! Just Your Average Month... February 2015
I love my job - I get to work in some amazing locations! This month started with shows at the crazily atmospheric Arundel Jail House as I returned to 368 Theatre Company for a 2nd episode of 'The Morlington Mysteries'; And ended with a return to the stunningly located Pendennis Castle in Falmouth, where I enjoyed a week swashing my buckle as notorious 'lady' (I use the term pretty loosely) pirate Anne Bonny in 'Hellcats' for English Herirage and Griffin Historical. What larks eh?!

Hello 2015, Hello Hazel! January 2015
In a dystopian future where the Government 'handicap' people for thinking for themselves, Hazel and George's lives are changed forever when 'terrorist' Harrison Bergeron invades their home... Intense but brilliant week's filming with the "Harrison Bergeron" cast n crew - have thoroughly enjoyed playing Hazel; a woman on the edge..! Great start to the New Year! Harrison Bergeron 2015 |

According to Slade, 'It's CHRIIIIIIISTMAAAAAAAAS'!!!! Time to put on my Russian army uniform and grab my camera for a busy 'silly season' with the stunt team..!

This month saw me making a foray into uncharterd territory as I took on the role of Production Designer on '12th Night' for Hurstpierpoint College; as well as sailing more familiar waters choreographing the 'stunning' Shipwreck scene! One rather gushing critic declared my set design to be 'ingenious' !!! There was fabric galore..!
Vicars, Vampires and Undertakers! October 2014
I do love this time of year, there is always some kind of spooky shenanigans to be had..! This year it was multiple roles in 368's Murderous 'Vampires Of Pogley Wood'! My last outing with the undead featured swords and stakes - this time it was Holy water... A LOT of Holy water!! Always a joy, working with Nigel Fairs and the team at 368! Pip portrays The Countess Helga Von Winkelpikker, Isobel Dunnit and the Rev. Iris MaCase! |
Having a BLAST with Science! September 2014
Cloths, Corporate and Curses - August 2014
August was a busy a month as I spent the 1st three weeks teaching Physical Theatre and 'Creative Cloth Work' to over 400 young students at Earwig Theatre Summer School by day, whilst learning lines for a corporate outing with 'Blue Starfish' by night! Good fun filming 'A Bad Day At Wisteria Grove' with Janet Gordon and her fabulous and super efficient crew - I thoroughly enjoyed playing the hapless and super ineffciant Millie! I also managed to find time to spend 2 days running around some woods in Dartford, filming some trial footage for the Hammer Film Preservation Society's forth coming feature 'Curse Of The Van Helsing Blood' - One never likes to turn down the opportunity to stake a few vampires!!
1st Screening of 'Fraternity' at the O2! July 2014

Fab to catch up with the rest of the cast and crew at the 1st screening of Mike Carter's story of love, loss, betrayal and brotherhood set against the backdrop of World War Two. Wonderfully exciting to see the finished article up on the big screen! Very proud to have been part of this beautiful and moving feature...
Pip, rocking the 'flat cap and onesie' look as land girl Betty Davis in 'Fraternity'
A Face For Radio... June 2014
This month I have mainly been recording narration for BBC Radio's series of World War One 'War Stories'! Having completed a couple of short pieces for Jacqui Grant's feature on The British West Indian Regiment for Radio 4, I was then asked back to narrate a programme about the airship station at Polegate for BBC Sussex; both of which are due for broadcast in the Autumn! There are more stories in the pipeline and I'm already looking forward to working with fabulous producer Simon Thurber again, later in the year...
Big Red, Talking Beans And Inflatable Bananas! May 2014

This year's Brighton Festival saw another instalment of Ripley Theatre's award winning 'Sheep Chronicles' take to the stage, as 'Jack And The Beans - Talk' came to town! Good times working with the Ripley team again; this time running around as Big Red Riding Hood, saving Gwen, The White Fairy from the clutches of the giant Giant and his partner in crime, the evil Ganglion Spider King!
What larks eh?!

Pirates, Smugglers and Big Red... April 2014
With the Brighton Festival rapidly approaching, rehearsals start this month for Ripley Theatre's award winning kid's show, 'Jack And The Beans-Talk'! Thoroughly looking forward to being a wise-cracking, arse-kicking, grown up Red Riding Hood... And a (puppet) Fishwife called Sally! But first, it's back to Pendennis Castle for another week of shows; This time I'm playing the vengeful Emmy in 'The Revenge Of Emmy Tott and the eponymous heroine in 'The Unluckiest Sailor'!
A Making Up Kind Of Month - March 2014
From devising tricks n schtick for an 18ft ladder and a 6'3" man for a new production of Beckett's 'Endgame', to developing my swash and buckling skills and choreographing a new 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' fight for Stunt Action Specialists (culminating in a day's filming in a green screen studio), it's been an action packed month!!
'50 Kisses' World Premiere - February 13th 2014

A truly great night on the red carpet with co-star David Mott as the phenomenon that is '50 Kisses' had it's world premiere in London!
Great to catch up with The Cookson Factory and see James collect his Director's award for 'The Last Supper'; and amazing to see the end result up on the big screen!
'The Last Supper' did well in the audience vote too, coming a very respectable 10th out of 24 - not bad for a film that very nearly didn't get made after a whole load of footage was lost...
'50 Kisses' has been entered into Cannes and there's even talk of a Guinness World Record for greatest number of collaborators on one feature film! I'll keep you posted..!

'50 Kisses' Update - We Made It In!!! January 2014
So, the final line up of films featured in their entirety (50kissesfilm.com) has been announced and I'm chuffed to bits to discover that 'The Last Supper' is one of them!
Planning my red carpet outfit for the premiere on 13th February, as we speak..!

Pirates, Paparazzi and PVC... December 2012
Ah, Christmas - Season of good will, private parties and stunt shows! This year was no different, with gigs around the country and a residency at Pinewood Studios. Pirates, Paps and PVC; what were YOU wearing this month??
So; How Exactly DOES One Fall Down A Rabit Hole..? (and The Arrival of PVC Woman!) November 2012
November saw me taking on the role of 'Guest Director' at Ardingly College when I was invited to choreograph the 'quite tricky' opening scenes of their production of Alice In Wonderland! Creating the effect of Alice falling trough the tunnel was physically challenging; but a challenge that the students admirably rose to resulting in a very effective piece of theatre. How did we do it? Aha! You'll have to go and see the show... This month also saw the unveiling of Stunt Action Specialists' latest Bond Character in preparation for the up coming Silly Season; Welcome 'PVC Woman' (we felt that 'Girl' might be pushing it a bit)...
The Return of Madame Swish... October 2013
Back by popular demand, the terifically terrifying trio of Madame Swish, Graveyard Mike and Deadward retuned to Pendennis Castle this month with 'Ghouls, Ghosts and Gruesome Graveyards' a show dedicated some of the creepier aspects of Autumn and performed in one of the UK's most haunted castles...
Time To Take To The Skies... September 2013
Thoroughly enjoyed the development/rehearsal process for the latest site specific piece from 368; 'Come Fly With Me'. Lots of fun and laughter were had as I learned to channel my inner Trolley Dolly (who turns out to be Australian), Flash Mobber and Z List Celebrity!
Eleanor Of Aquitaine Moves To Wales. Summer 2013
This summer, the 'Queen of Courtly Love' relocated to Goodrich Castle near the Welsh border where she added at touch of glamour to the tale of 'The Boy Who Would Be A Knight'. Good times with great audiences - but perhaps not quite as the history books would have it...
Brothers (And Sisters) In Arms. June 2013
In upcoming feature 'Fraternity' the war might have been raging on the fields of France but down on the farm, the army of Land Girls were mainly battling with uncooperative livestock/machinery, lecherous Yanks and traditional (torrential) British summer weather!
A Grimm Month. May 2013
The Brighton Festival had two productions of Rumpelstiltskin on offer this year but only one of them had a rubbish, Welsh assassin in it! Very enjoyable season working with the team at Ripley Theatre once again (always nice to be asked back!) ~ and just for the record, despite many accusations to the contrary, I'M NOT WELSH!!!
Speakeasy April
Lots of fun playing both sides of the law in Mafia related shenanigans for Stunt Action Specialists' Prohibition Stunt Show
Pussy Adore, Many Bunny And More 'Bond'ing... March 2013
Despite dying on stage every night, Pussy Adore and Miss Manybunny managed to survive to 'Die Another Day' throughout the run of this Bond spoof...
View From The Window. January/February 2013
Intense but amazing shoot with Eva Motoso and her brilliant crew on the psychological thriller 'The Window'. It was tough being the only member of the cast - but ALWAYS fun playing a woman on the edge... Or IS she...??
Festive Flouncing! December 2012
December was a month of; attempting to take over the world as the evil Russian Supervillain 'Colonel Anja Bakjobic' (Stunt Action Specialists; Live Action Bond show) and flouncing my way to world domination as Queen of the Night, in Ripley Theatre's award winning Christmas spectacular 'The Amazing Adventures Of Little Red'. However, disappointingly (and despite repeated attempts), I was thwarted EVERY time!!
Undead, Dying/Dead And Communing With The Dead... October/November 2012
It's been a morbid couple of months..! Had an energetic time revisiting the zombie genre as a featured character in FireCracker Films' 'Zombie Apocalypse' for DiscoveryTV. A great shoot in a great location - great fun! This led to another shoot with the same director (James Cookson) this time as a dying (and ultimately dead!) homeless woman, in 'The Last Supper'; part of the '50 Kisses' project. The films featuring in the final edit have yet to be announced but some of our footage has made it into the trailer currently on general release, so fingers crossed! And then it was off to Pendennis Castle for a bit of ghost hunting action in the Gruesome Graveyard; with the Spooktackular teams at Griffin Historical and English Heritage!
Character Building. September 2012
Good times working with Chris Stagg and his team on the development of his new play "You Know Where We Are". Thoroughly enjoyed getting to know leading lady, 'Shevaughn' and look forward to seeing how the work we have done on the script and characters pans out in the final piece
Highway Woman Hijinx! July/August 2012
Kenilworth Castle was the location for some daylight robbery action as Katherine Palmer stalked the highways and byways robbing from the rich to... keep for herself..! Loads of fun being 'Mrs Turpin'
Pirates Ahoy! June 2012
It's off to Jersey for a crazy week of shows n sword fights! Looking forward to revisiting the energetic character of the First Mate in Griffin Historical's 'The Revenge Of Emmy Tott' as well as making the acquaintance of my new favourite Bad Bird (!) Ann Bonny in 'Pirate Queen - The Legend Of Ann Bonny' AARRRGGGHH!!
Manic May!
What an incredible month May was! 'BUG' was a runaway success in the Brighton Fringe Festival leading to 5 star reviews; and awards and nominations for Best Actor and Actress! 'Brutal', 'Visceral', and 'Not for the faint-hearted'. Excellent!!
12th April 2012
After last night's runaway success of 'For One Night Only...', Pip is quite relieved to be getting back on script!
